Lurie Garden Volunteer Opportunities For Master Gardeners

Millennium Park’s Lurie Garden is one of the first examples in the United States of what is known as the “New Wave Planting Style” - featuring native North American perennials and grasses in combinations designed by renowned Dutch plantsman, Piet Oudolf.  Each spring, a new ‘crop’ of volunteers is recruited to help keep the garden healthy and beautiful.

Volunteers are critical to the Lurie Garden’s success by helping the horticultural staff with ongoing maintenance and providing information to the public.

Hands-on gardening volunteers must be Master Gardeners or have professional landscape experience and must commit to a regular weekly 3-4 hour weekday shift.

Free tours of the Lurie Garden are available Sunday mornings from mid-May through September.  Volunteer tour guides are needed as part of this program.  Tour guides must commit to four Sundays during the season and one full day training session.

Lurie Garden volunteer training is held in April.  Please email us at luriegarden@cityofchicago.org if you are interested in becoming a Lurie Garden volunteer.  We will notify potential volunteers in March with specific dates and times for training.

Thank you for your support of the Lurie Garden.
